They consciously take different paths, think global and they handle many things differently than large companies: The heroes from the second row, hidden champions, are role models for effective and sustainable corporate development.

According to Hermann Simon, who defined the term, the following three criteria serve to identify hidden champions:

  1. belong to the TOP 3 in their market of the world or are No.1 in Europe,
  2. their turnover is less than five billion euros,
  3. they have a low public profile.
